Introduction and Reason:
In Chapter 3, “Our Fascinating Earth”, in your
6th Grade Science text books, you studied volcanoes, valleys, and
caves. These are what are known as landforms. Landforms are areas of the earth, which are
defined by that area’s surface form and location in the landscape. As you progress through your studies
of the earth, you will need to know more about landforms, and how to identify
the different types of these areas of the earth.
In order for you to better understand
the earth’s structure, you will be researching landforms, gathering their
definitions and rewriting them in your own words. After you have completed your research, you
will search the Internet for the landforms that you researched and create a
display for them by using “Comic Life” software.
Examples of landforms: Valleys, volcanoes, rivers, streams,
cliffs, buttes, etc.
Project:
Step 1: You will be provided with a Landform
Definition Sheet. On this sheet, you
will fill in the definition of each landform that is presented in your own
words. You will read the definitions and
rewrite those definitions. For example:
Copied: A
shore or shoreline is the fringe of land at the edge of a large body of water,
such as an ocean, sea, or lake.
My Words: A shore
is made of a piece of land or a stretch of land that is right next to an ocean,
sea, lake or other large body of water.
Word I Looked Up: Fringe-
An area adjacent to or next to something else.
Step 2: Once you have completed the Landform
Definition Sheet, you will create a display page using the Comic Life
software. You will find a picture on the
Internet of the landforms that you have already researched and defined, and
then you will place a picture of that landform into your display page. Inside each panel of your display page, you
will add the name of the landform and then the definition of it.
